Members LederRudi Posted November 19, 2015 Members Report Posted November 19, 2015 Nice and clean as always! Very crisp and precise basketweave! How do you treat the backside of your belts? Every sealing that I've tried tends to cracking. I also tried leaving the backside natural...and ruined a belt sweating profusely in tropical climate Quote "If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?" Tuco Ramírez
Members Rohn Posted November 19, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 19, 2015 Thanks LederRudi. I use Gun Tragacanth on the backs of my belts and then rub with a rounded piece of Plexiglas until they are smooth. Then I put a couple of coats of finish on them, usually Tan-kote. I am sure the tropical climate would be different than here and what I do might not work there. Quote Rohn(John 8:32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV)
Members LederRudi Posted November 19, 2015 Members Report Posted November 19, 2015 Thanks for the info, Rohn! Quote "If you work for a living, why do you kill yourself working?" Tuco Ramírez
Chief31794 Posted November 19, 2015 Report Posted November 19, 2015 Great looking rig as always, I love the color you get in your dye jobs. Chief Quote "Life's too short to carry ugly leather"
Members Rohn Posted November 19, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 19, 2015 Thanks Chief. I sure do enjoy making and finishing these leather items. Quote Rohn(John 8:32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV)
Members stu925 Posted November 20, 2015 Members Report Posted November 20, 2015 Beautiful work as usual Rohn. I find myself drawn to that style of holster more and more, may have to make one for a Model 10 I picked up last month. First I need to find some time to work on my own projects. There's worse problems to have I suppose than not having time for your own stuff. Stu Quote
Members Rohn Posted November 20, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 20, 2015 Thanks Stu. Sometimes you just have to set aside some time for you own stuff. Quote Rohn(John 8:32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV)
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted November 20, 2015 Contributing Member Report Posted November 20, 2015 Great work Rohn, the color looks very good and you nailed the basketweave! Members retiredff Posted November 20, 2015 Members Report Posted November 20, 2015 Thank you. I used Fiebings Light Brown Professions Oil dye and Fiebings dark brown antique dye. So you dyed it first then antiqued it? I you did, I had not thought of that and will try for a belt I'm making. BTW, good work, looks great! Quote
Members Rohn Posted November 20, 2015 Author Members Report Posted November 20, 2015 Retiredff, I dyed it, then put on a coat of Tan-kote, the antique dye goes on next, then finish it with two more coats of Tan-kote. Quote Rohn(John 8:32) And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV)
Members retiredff Posted November 20, 2015 Members Report Posted November 20, 2015 I'll try that, Thanks Rohn. Tony Quote
