Glue Question

I have to glue some cut out leather spoked gears to a bag... Now I can only glue the the one side of the gear. I can't use a contact cement because you have to glue both sides. What kind of glue would work?

Now the reason I can't glue both sides is because the gear has lots of open cut thru areas where I couldn't clean up the glue in those spots

any help would be appreciated..

You could try leather tape from wawak sewing. It's double sided and sticks really good. You may need stick one side and trim depending on how wide the spokes are. Then peel backing off and stick.

Quality contact works just fine if you put it on one side, assemble wet, wait for it to dry (could be an hour or so).

Hi Lew,

You could use superglue, but practice some before you go with the real thing. Regular (with all the nasty chemicals) contact cement will also work, just spray it on the applique (or brush it on evenly) and apply right away. It will dry gradually over a 1/2 hour. It is not at this point contact cement like the tacky version, so you have to be careful not to move it around. I have never tried this with the water based stuff, it might take a little longer to dry.

If you are going to stitch down your applique (as in Cowboy boot tops), there is Renia Aquilim SG which is kind of like sticky notes glue but stronger, you can remove and replace it quite a lot and it still holds pretty well; not enough for a permanent bond but more than enough to stitch it down.
