sideforce Report post Posted December 28, 2015 As you pointed out, and I'm in the exact same boat, keep working on the tooling. Nice job with the construction, stitching and dye work. I lined up to attend a Leather working class at my local Tandy to get a brush up on the tooling. Haven't done any in years and wasn't that good when I did it. smusser Report post Posted December 28, 2015 yea i prob should go to a class since im only about 15 mins from one, im kinda relearning... my grandpa taught me about 25 yrs ago (im 34 haha), he used to do basic tooling on saddles for the Amish in sw missouri for trade, the VA suggested i pick up a hobby to see if it would help with my PTSD. but thats a story for another day. mlapaglia Report post Posted December 28, 2015 Let your leather dry out a little more. It looks like it was too wet when you did the stamping. What do you have under the leather when you stamp it? It might be that there is too much flex when its hit. You have a good start and will do just fine with practice.
smusser Report post Posted December 28, 2015 it might have been a little wet, but i think a lot of it came out when i did the wet form the carving was crisper before i will see if i can find a picture before the form. i cant remember if i took one or not . i use a 1 inch or 1.5 inch slab of granite
