I am getting more request for casual belts not made from veg tan or bridle. I am worried that the oil from the latigo will rub off on the cloths. mlapaglia Report post Posted January 19, 2016 I understand you are trying to get away from veg tanned but what about Harness Leather? The grain will have a higher durability and be more water resistant than saddle leather. The only downside would be that it is not "rugged" looking. Just a thought. TinkerTailor Report post Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) Take a side of nice veg, put it on the ground, throw a bunch of neetsfoot/dye/pond water mix all over it with some sand and then drive over it with your pickup truck a bunch. Clean up and cut belts Raise prices and profit. It works for jeans, why not belts. People pay triple for pre worn out denim. It's an Eddie Baur, . . . bought at a yard sale for $3, . . . every seam and outside edge is "sanded" or something to make it look worn on the edges. At first, I just thought it had been worn a lot, . . . bought it anyway for a run around coat, . . . began looking seriously at it, . . . it was darn near brand new, . . . but had been subjected to the "worn" treatment. Probably not "THE" best buy I ever made, . . . but certainly one of them. I'm with Tinker, . . . beat it up, . . . jack up the prices, . . . smile and say "thank you" when they pony up the cash, . . . laugh all the way to the bank. Weaver Leather Supply Report post Posted January 29, 2016 Distressing yourself is an option. I wouldn't do a whole side though in case it doesn't turn out nice! I have seen people use many techniques to distress straps, driving over on gravel is one. Also a sanding block to the edges and slightly on the grain side in places. With some finesse this can look good. Beating with a chain is another method i have seen. Why are people requesting they not be veg?
