Boriqua Report post Posted March 3, 2016 Grumble Grumble .. freagin sig has to take a perfectly fine 1911 and make some statement! So I have someone that wants to buy one of my holsters but it turns out he has a Sig Nightmare commander size which has these really high squared off shoulders on the slide. I think the leather should stretch to accommodate it but Its a pretty dramatic change. So I have 2 questions Has anyone tried successfully to get a sig nightmare gun in a holster built around a colt 1911 or rocky 1911? Is there a mold for the sig, can I use the 4.2 sig nitro mold? Thanks everyone
Boriqua Report post Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) Found a fair pic on the net that shows the muzzle of the Sig nightmare carry. My holster is built on the colt 1911 which admittedly my rocky fits real snug in. Do you think that guy will fit and form with some break in? The holster is constructed of a single layer of 8/9 oz shoulder front and back. Edited March 3, 2016 by Boriqua
chiefjason Report post Posted March 3, 2016 Don't use the Colt. It's a big difference on that slide. Unless there is a visible difference you can find, the Sig Nitro should be fine if it has the same Sig slide profile. Basically, all the Sig's have the same proprietary slide except their traditional models.
Boriqua Report post Posted March 3, 2016 (edited) Yea I am looking at the difference between my rocky tactical and the colt blue gun. Its a big difference. I wonder if the Springfield 1911 blue gun has the "blockier" muzzle. I hate telling people no but I make holsters along with other leather work because I dig it and try and keep it fun and I just dont think there is a big enough calling for the Sig 1911 holsters that it would be worth it for me to get a mold? Springfield and colts I can make decorated holsters all day and there will be buyers. New mold is 60 bucks. While I hate doing it maybe if I form the holster to my Rocky? JLSleather Report post Posted March 4, 2016 That 1911 5" pattern on my site will fit the Colt AND the RIA (and a few others). From the pic you post of the Sig, I do NOT think that would work there. In fact, that Sig looks like a classic case of where to use a stitched site channel (them corners is UP THERE).

I hate turning people away but I am small beans and its not worth the potential dissatisfaction. Thanks brother. I actually went and bought a couple of your patterns on etsy today. Friggin bargain! I felt a little guilty about the free ones I downloaded on your site and figured I ought to buy a couple. Stay tuned for my take on an Avenger! I have been wanting one for myself forever but I kind of flubbed 2. Sigh ..now I have to look up "stitched sight channel" Just when I think I have learned a ton ... there is still a ton more to learn. Awesome!
JLSleather Report post Posted March 4, 2016 That Colt Commander avenger style pattern is one of my least 'favorite' ones. Ever look at something a year or two later, and wonder "WHAT was I thinking when I did that????" Me neither Still, it does fit, so I left it up until I got a chance to re-work and replace it. Then, it's likely me who should feel bad about taking money for that... so you should at LEAST 'demand' a free replacement pattern. Now that I think about it, that Ruger Sr9c could be a little purdier, too ...

One day I will share what I did in my real life and sometimes I thought it was great .. and sometimes... well I was glad other people liked it!
JLSleather Report post Posted March 4, 2016 Well, I need to write up new "directions" for this pancake style holster for the Glock G43. It's kind of an 80/20 holster, seams not in the middle as they say. But its' nothing so 'fancy' you can't figure it out. Got a mold? Care to make this one? I'll trade ya fer a pic of the finished holster Off for tonight, but send me a message if you think this is something you want to see.
chiefjason Report post Posted March 4, 2016 I've got the Sig railed and non railed versions. That slide is way thicker than standard at the top. I didn't even consider the pattern issue. I make my holsters in a pretty unusual manner. I forget you guys stitch first. lol
JLSleather Report post Posted March 4, 2016 That's the advantage of NOT using patterns --- you fit the mold, not the pattern. Other side of the coin, the advantage of using the pattern, when somebody else sees it and wants one like it, no problem.
chiefjason Report post Posted March 4, 2016 Pretty much. But I've gotten pretty good and getting them close to the same cant wise. FWIW, my most popular holsters I have the back cut to the shape I want. Glue on the front, trim front to back. Nearly identical holsters. Advantage me, I can turn out a holster for a gun with no, close to, or minimal pattern. Advantage pattern, makes some steps quicker and easier. Repeatability. More than one way to skin a catfish. JLSleather Report post Posted March 4, 2016 Yep, Robert (mecopocketholsters.com) made holsters for YEARS before using a pattern to make one!
glockanator Report post Posted March 5, 2016 A friend a work bought one of these and wanted a pancake cross draw for it. I informed him I would need the firearm to make the holster. He told me that he had spent $2700 + tax for his and that he would need to stay with it. I told him that was fine. When he asked me for a price I told him that it would be $270 for the holster. He looked me square in the eye and said "You know I can get a Uncle Mikes holster for like 20 bucks" I responded and said " That is true but this is a custom holster and i will have several hours into making it" long story short he told me that was way too much and that he was just going to buy a cheaper holster to carry it around. A month later he told me that he bought a holster from MerNickle for 350 plus tax.

Thanks everyone Boriqua, . . . one of the fun things you can do with blue guns is customize em. I do it often. Add several layers of masking tape here or there to make the slide wider, . . . augment with a layer or two of manila envelope, . . . be surprized what you can conjure up. I had a guy wanted a glock (ugh !!) holster and the model he had was a bit longer than the only one I had at the time. About 20 minutes after I found out what the difference in the two was, . . . I had a wooden extension for my glock (ugh !!) blue gun, . . . that when taped on, . . . carefully modeled the one he wanted. Made him the holster, . . . he's been a happy camper ever since (guess about as happy as you can be if you own a glock, . . . y'know). Anyway, . . . go for it. Nothing ventured, . . . nothing gained. May God bless, Dwight
Modad2010 Report post Posted March 6, 2016 Multi mold has a mold gun for the 4'' Sig 1911. It has a sight channel mold built into it and the trigger guard and the ejection port have been filled in due to them being made for the primary use of making kydex holsters.
