ihateselectingausername Report post Posted March 8, 2016 Here's my first holster to fit a Colt .38 also my first post. I just wondered if anyone likes the pic? I have loads of trouble "finishing" the leather but I think in time I'll figure it out, lol. I found an addicting and somewhat expensive hobby (like everybody else here) lol. Boriqua Report post Posted March 8, 2016 Nice stitching and you even do cool graphics! I think that is an excellent first post. I keep wanting the welt at the trigger guard to be closer to the gun but its your design not mine. I say very nice first holster and post!
ihateselectingausername Report post Posted March 8, 2016 Thanks,I figure with practice I'll get the trigger area worked out. Was a gift to my Father. He liked it. Stitching was easy for me but staining was the tough part. I need to refine my staining. Lol

Dwight Report post Posted March 9, 2016 1. Get that stitch line a whole bunch closer to the trigger guard, . . . that looks very much like you made the holster for a different gun. But for a "first" one, . . . it is great. Y'all ain't never gonna see my first one, . . . nada............ 2. Don't stain, . . . dye your leather. It would have taken me all of 30 seconds to dye that holster, . . . and it would have stretched to 3 minutes if you count clean up and put away time. I use 9 by 14 (or so) baking pans, . . . pour the dye in the pan, . . . drop in the leather, . . . swoosh it around a bit, . . . drag it out, . . . daub off the puddles, . . . let it dry. While it is beginning to dry, . . . I pour the rest of the dye back in the bottle, . . . wipe out the pan with a paper towel, . . . throw it and my rubber gloves in the trash, . . . What part of Indiana do you hang your hat in? My two sisters and I laugh about all living in Marion, . . . they're in Marion, Indiana, . . . I'm in Marion, Ohio. May God bless, Dwight

stu925 Report post Posted March 9, 2016 I agree about the trigger guard but overall I think you did very well for a first holster. Nice clean design and stitching looks good too which I really struggled with in the beginning. You should be proud of that piece. Stu
x101airborne Report post Posted March 9, 2016 A classic Slim Jim. I like them. If I think I will need the weapon in a hurry, I will unsnap the retention strap and tuck it back into my pants using the holster as an open top. One thing I did and this is only a personal opinion is I quit cutting low around the trigger. I ride tractors and farm equipment a lot while carrying a single action and find without the trigger cut in the holster the weapon rides a bit tighter in the leather. A wonderful piece. You really should be proud!
