Is Horween Essex Cementable?

Recommended Posts

I've read and heard that Horween Essex is not cementable. And I've also read and heard the opposite.

Does anyone have direct experience gluing this leather? How does it work and hold up?

If it is cementable, should I go toward or away from any particular glues?

Tips?

Thanks,

Dale

I glue essex on a daily basis....we use a special heat activated glue.. after we glue each surface (like with contact cement) and it dries... we put them together and run them thru a heated roller press..

I've been in touch with Horween over the past few days. They say Essex is cementable, though they do not recommend any particular glues.

Does anybody know how Bulldog compares to other white glues? I've been using Ever Tack with good luck.

Thanks to all responders.

Essex and Dublin glue nicely with Renia Colle de Cologne. You must ensure appropriate penetration and cement your pieces within the recommended working time.

Barge, Weldwood, anything really...Essex is no different than any other leather i've found.
