Members horselady21 Posted March 28, 2016 Members Report Posted March 28, 2016 I want to start making these festival belts, and wonder what kind of leather they are using, or what might be best to use? It looks flexible, almost like a latigo. Quote
Members ninety5percent Posted March 31, 2016 Members Report Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Looks like Tandy goat skin https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/designer-goatskin-assorted-colors or Tundra sheepskin https://www.tandyleather.com/en/search/?sSearch=99260 or Lamb https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/assorted-garment-lambskins Edited March 31, 2016 by ninety5percent Quote
Members GrampaJoel Posted April 1, 2016 Members Report Posted April 1, 2016 It's hard to say what type it is just from a photo. But it appears to be pretty thin, and soft. Dont get side tracked by the colors thinking it is latago. From the colors it could be harness leather too. But I doubt it is. I would bet it is similar to what Tandy calls chap leather, or upholstery leather. Joel Quote
Members horselady21 Posted April 2, 2016 Author Members Report Posted April 2, 2016 Thank you both for replying. I originally thought it was a little heavier, like a milled veg tan (I saw some other belts like this that were obviously heavier material), but I think you are correct that these are a thinner leather like goat. Now to come up with a pattern! The not-so-easy part for me! Quote
Members horselady21 Posted April 2, 2016 Author Members Report Posted April 2, 2016 And designer goatskin is on sale next weekend at Tandy for $15 each! Guess I will be stocking up on my way in to Equine Affaire in Columbus! Quote
