myersranch1 Report post Posted August 7, 2016 New to the forum and just getting back into leather-work after a 10 year break. Still a novice by any stretch. I'm stamping some spur straps for my sons girlfriend and I want the edge to look like its stitched. I remember one of the ladies at our local Tandy store showing me a method to make a stamped pattern that looked like stitching. The store has been closed for 5+ years. It may have been an embossing wheel (really can't remember) but I've googled and can't fine the method. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks. bikermutt07 Report post Posted August 7, 2016 I don't know that process but if they're just small spur straps.....I would just put a stitch in them.
Colt W Knight Report post Posted August 7, 2016 You are probably describing an overstitch wheel, which is designed to layout even spacing for hand stitching or make the stitches lay down nice and pretty after the piece has been stitched. In my opinion, if you want it to look stitched, you should stitch it.
TomG Report post Posted August 7, 2016 It's called a overstitcher or a stitching wheel
myersranch1 Report post Posted August 7, 2016 I knew you guys were going to say just stitch it. This is one of those applications I'd rather just have the "almost" look. I have the overstitch wheel and its not quite the look she achieved.

Tandy sell a version of their overstitch wheel that takes different rollers. I think I remember seeing one that looked similar to a saddle stitch. I don't know if they are still available or not, you will have to check online.

A 5,7, and a 9, I think. But they are all straight.
myersranch1 Report post Posted August 7, 2016 thanks guys. I will do a deeper google search. Sounds like it might be a discontinued wheel I'm looking for. Which the internet and ebay will have somewhere. Once I find i will post the information.
