Members dirkba Posted October 6, 2016 Members Report Posted October 6, 2016 I stumbled across a skiving machine in storage, but have no clue if this will even work...! The motor is 3 phase - so this will have to be replaced with a single phase motor. The "arm" is missing - would this render the machine useless or can it work without the arm? I have never operated a machine like this....so I don't want to lose fingers trying to find out if it will work!! Where are the experts?? Quote
RockyAussie Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 Hi Dirkba, Do you own it already or do you have to buy it? What breed is it and can you get any more better pics? Pm me if you like. Quote Wild Harry - Australian made leather goodsYouTube Channel Instagram
Members TinkerTailor Posted October 11, 2016 Members Report Posted October 11, 2016 Unless you are picking it up as a parts machine for a complete skiver, turn around and walk away.......It was taken apart and ditched for a reason. That piece of turd will cost you hundreds if not thousands in parts and leather to test it. Probably some blood and tears as well. It is much more difficult rebuilding something if you haven't used one before. If you have no reference to how it is supposed to look, work, and sound, how will you know if it is right when you are done? Disassembled, unknown machines are a no-go until you are at least a level 5 machine wizard. Guys like cowboybob, gottaknow, singermania, wizcrafts, and many others on here, they are up in the level 8-9 range. The guy who designed the machine on paper with a pencil and ruler, he gets level 15. Now IF all the parts are there and you are mechanically inclined, you may be able to fix and restore it, but again, you may hit the wall because one little tiny part is not available anymore or costs 6-months beer budget.....and then it sits in the back of a warehouse collecting dust for the next sucker. Its not like there are 10 skiver rebuild videos on youtube to go by. However, There is no adventure in letting fear and common sense be your guide. Trox Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 Unless you have the missing parts is useless. Nice cabinet thought. You are missing key components and its looking old, it can be very difficult to find parts for it. Unless it's a Fortuna, then you can have it rebuilt by the Fortuna company. But I'm afraid you can buy a Chinese skiving machine for less than this key parts will cost you. If you have all the parts (in working order) then it's not rocket science to get it working again. What brand is it ? The picture is not the best quality. Try to find the name and model number on it. Members dirkba Posted October 25, 2016 Author Members Report Posted October 25, 2016 Hi All, Thanks for the feedback. The machine is in a far better shape than I thought and the arm is not missing - the machine doesn't have an arm. It seems this machine is very similar to the Italy Fav Leather Skiving Machine Everything seems to be in working order. Just needs a good clean up and some oil. My only challenge now is to get it connected to a 3 phase supply. All is not a lost cause!! Quote
RockyAussie Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 AH HA. I've only seen this type with electrical adjustments. Is the foot mechanically adjustable on this one as I don't see the control board? Would love to see some clearer close up pics. OBTW congratulations.Regards Brain Quote Wild Harry - Australian made leather goodsYouTube Channel Instagram
Trox Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 Ok, a modern type of machine (FAV also made those regular Fortuna types with arm). As I said the before, the picture/angle do not reveal much. But what's the brand?
