Can i spot dye my damaged goat leather wallet?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i recently bought a new leather wallet and it didn't last 3 days intact. It got damaged in my pocket somehow and when i saw it i thought that it might be a stain, so i tried to clean it off with a cotton swab, but it got even worse as some of the dye at that spot came off. Now the spot is really noticeable and it has a few minor scratches around it. Generally, it seems that the skin is very delicate and easy to scratch. Now, what i want to ask is whether i should try to dye it or not even bother? Will i be able to find a sufficiently similar color? How should i do the dying? It's not really about the wallet, but i am afraid that even if i buy another, the same will happen again.media-20161101.jpg

You'll likely never match it perfectly, but what do you have to lose?  I say dye it and at the very least the spot will be less noticeable.  Take note of how the dye affects the immediate area around the spot.  You might make a judgement call at that point to redye the entire piece in a darker shade.

You have no idea how many of the users on here bought something that was crap, and decided they could do better themselves. Don't buy another, buy some leather and make your own. We will help. Oh, and welcome to the site btw.

take/ship that piece of crap back and do as TT says, buy some leather and make your own. If you keep it, they will just keep producing more crap. Take it back and help force them to start putting out quality items.

Yeah, it seems that the wallet is of low quality and even if i succeed in dying it, it wont probably last much.  I'll do some research and consider making my own wallet when i have more time. For now i might try dying it if i manage to find a similar color.

Thanks!

If you try dying it and you use leather dye my bet is that it would lift the finish that is on there and will probably turn into a mess.
