Members AngieNZ Posted November 30, 2016 Author Members Report Posted November 30, 2016 Are the parts interchangeable with the 29k73 ,I have picked up one but it has had a hard time ,still sews just a bit tempermental lol love the quote by the way Quote
Members Constabulary Posted November 30, 2016 Members Report Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) I´m pretty sure they are since all later 29K´s with replaceable gearbox have a lot in common. I only noticed Singer returned to the simpler and cheaper to produce thread take up lever adjuster at one time but I´m sure most if not all other parts are interchangeable. But to be 100% sure you should compare the spare parts list oft he 29k73 and 29U173U when you are looking for a specific part. Will try to add the files I have for the 29K72 / 29U73A EDIT: I also have a 29K73 PDF parts list + manual but cannot upload and and cannot compress it to a readable size. Send me a PM if you want it 29U171A_172A_173A.pdf Singer 29K - 29U171A_172A_173A.pdf Edited November 30, 2016 by Constabulary Quote
Members shoepatcher Posted November 30, 2016 Members Report Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) AngieNZ, The 29U173A was built in Japan. Some of the parts or slightly different in spec sizes compared to the parts for a Singer 29K73 and 29K173. They went to metric sizing on some items and they are definitely different. glenn Edited November 30, 2016 by shoepatcher Quote

You always learn something new everyday - I did not expect they switched to metric measures - good to know. With other words - better leave em alone when you find one that (may) needs parts? Quote
Members shoepatcher Posted December 1, 2016 Members Report Posted December 1, 2016 c, Not all parts were changed, just some. I do not think you can get any of the metric parts today. I have yet to find a source. glenn Quote
Members AngieNZ Posted January 1, 2017 Author Members Report Posted January 1, 2017 I have managed to find some parts for the newer machines here in NZ but have since found a company in the UK that has parts . I wish I could leave the machines alone lol but they are so much fun to get going again .I enjoy a challenge Quote
Members shoepatcher Posted January 2, 2017 Members Report Posted January 2, 2017 AngieNZ, Can you give us the names of the companies in UK and NZ that have parts for the "U" series of shoepatchers made by Singer? glenn Quote
Members AngieNZ Posted January 6, 2017 Author Members Report Posted January 6, 2017 Hi Glenn, Most of the parts are the same as for the 29K singers but they have changed a few . The company in UK is Sew Europe - http://sew-europe.com/ Not much point in getting from the company here as he gets his from overseas anyway. I have found hin hopeless as he has no idea what parts he has sent .I had made an order last year in August.... still waiting lol The sew Europe team has been awesome parts arrive within 10 days and were all the correct ones. Good luck Quote
Members Constabulary Posted January 7, 2017 Members Report Posted January 7, 2017 Regular 29K parts you can order online from College Sewing UK as well. They sell the same parts as Sew Europe. I was in touch with Sew Europe too but their prices back then (when I restored my 29K71) were higher then from College Sewing. Just wanted to have it mentioned. Quote
