Members Rublackett Posted January 7, 2017 Members Report Posted January 7, 2017 I've recently made a card holder which the front can also be used as a note holder/another card holder (see images) I have only just started burnishing the edges thanks to your advice on my last post. https://imgur.com/gallery/8LxPN Quote
Members Tholek Posted January 7, 2017 Members Report Posted January 7, 2017 (edited) How long did it take you to make? Not bad for starting off. Edited January 7, 2017 by Tholek Quote
Members Rublackett Posted January 7, 2017 Author Members Report Posted January 7, 2017 This took me roughly a week to make because of school. But it's also due to inexperience in sewing. Thank you. Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted January 7, 2017 Members Report Posted January 7, 2017 Good start. To straighten out your stitching get an overstitch wheel or stitching chisels. Use a compass/dividers set at 1/8th or 3mm(or so) to mark a line from the edge then use stitching wheel or chisel. A fork will work in a pinch.lol. Rule of thumb is about 8 spi on something that size. I use .08 thread. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 You're doing fine. When you can pick up some sand paper and a wing divider. The sandpaper will even up your edges and then you can run your wing divider down a straight edge. This will help you straighten out your stitches a little more. Just remember to take your time. Get intimate with the edges and stitching. I will pull out a magnifier if I need to. It will make all the difference. Keep up the good work and keep having fun. Quote
Members Windrider30 Posted January 8, 2017 Members Report Posted January 8, 2017 Agrred with the mention of a wing divider and sand paper just a tip though with the sand paper well two yips first always go in the same direction never just back and forth second tip get wet dry sand paper and two size grits i use 60 to start with then jumps to 120 or so then after sanding burnish the edges a bit Quote

Members Mattsbagger Posted January 8, 2017 Members Report Posted January 8, 2017 Sorry 0.8 not .08. In mm. I use 1mm on 5 or 6 spi (or the stitching irons closest to that) 3mm iron 0.8 thread. 5mm iron 1mm thread. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted January 8, 2017 Report Posted January 8, 2017 You think 1 mm for 4mm chisels, Matt? Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted January 8, 2017 Members Report Posted January 8, 2017 Don't have any 4mm. So don't know how it would look. Only one way to find out is to try it and see if you like it.lol That's how I found out I didn't like 1mm thread in 3mm stitching irons. Quote
