Metric V-Belt?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a replacement v-belt for my 111W155 and am not sure what type of belt it is (3L, 4L ?).  It measures 0.4" wide and 0.25" thick, numbers which do not exactly match up with 3L or 4L (3L is closer).  The only markings I see on it are the brand (Mitsubishi), M-42  and  150P Japan.  I'm guessing this may be a metric belt (No. 13 is 10mm x 8 mm), which is closer.  Anyone have any recommendation on a belt that will work but is readily available?

Many times I have found them at ace hardware, and the 3L is what works for me. The style of belt is measured in inch increments usually so your m42 is 42" in measure of the outside.

Use type 3L v-belts for industrial sewing machines and their pulleys. they are 3/8 inch or 10mm across the top. As already noted, these v-belts are sold by length in inches, not millimeters.

I really like twist-lock style v-belts like this, at Mcmaster-Carr. https://www.mcmaster.com/#6173k36/=160yn99

They aren't cheap, but they are easily adjustable, which de-criticalizes measurement and provides flexibility should you change pulleys or mounting. Sometimes one can find a good deal on Amazon. A very knowledgeable and meticulous friend of mine uses one to drive the alternator on his airplane's Lycoming O-360.

Here's one on my 105. I already had the other belt and the speed-reduction scheme accommodates a wide range of sizes.

Yup, looks like I wasted a hyphen.
