sageren Report post Posted February 14, 2017 I use a really thin fine paint brush for small details like that. really small amount of silver paint and take my time.
Katlyn4jc Report post Posted February 15, 2017 Thanks. Wow that so much time indeed. Was hoping there would be a rub n buff technique or silver metallic pen that would do the magic
Instinctive Report post Posted February 15, 2017 You might want to try the Pilot paint maker's with a super fine point. https://is.gd/fSIvue I've had one on my archery tackle box for years to number my arrows.
Katlyn4jc Report post Posted February 15, 2017 Thanks. Are they permanent and if possible please share a picture of your work
Katlyn4jc Report post Posted February 15, 2017 Do you use these before or after painting and sealing. Please take me through the steps
Instinctive Report post Posted February 15, 2017 They are very permanent, oil based paints. I have not used it on leather but just tried on a piece of unfinished veg tan and it wrote on it without running. I suspect sealed leather will be best then seal over top. As with all new technique, experiment to be sure.
fredk Report post Posted February 15, 2017 Seal the leather first, then use a gel ink pen, then seal again when ink is dry

BJP Report post Posted February 22, 2017 I use a fine brush and silver acrylic paint and just go slowly. It'll pay off. Im not sure how a pen will fare after your work has been Resolened. Not sure if the ink will smear or not. I know acrylic will not.
Beret Report post Posted February 22, 2017 (edited) You can also do it as a relief. Takes some good timing to catch it before it dries to leave residue, but you'll get the look you want. If using acrylics, you thin it enough (but not too much) that you can use it kind of like an antique finish. Brush on over the letters so it gets into the low points, quickly remove evenly and thoroughly it from the rest.
