Members Sompla Posted February 19, 2017 Members Report Posted February 19, 2017 (edited) Hello, I've been doing some leatherwork recently, and managed to finish these three projects. All firsts for me, and so much fun! A few misstakes here and there, but I am learning as I go! All three items were sewn with linen thread. Passport cover in vegetable tanned leather from Tärnsjö garveri (a swedish tannery founded in 1873), this was the first one that I finished. Any thoughts and comments are most welcome! Kind regards Iphone 7 plus sleeve, hand dyed vegetable tanned leather, also from Tärnsjö. Edited February 19, 2017 by Sompla Quote

bikermutt07 Posted February 19, 2017 Report Posted February 19, 2017 Those all look great and I really like your rock. You have a nice rock. Quote I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day. From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Members Mattsbagger Posted February 19, 2017 Members Report Posted February 19, 2017 Looking good. I also like the rock.lol Since I spend all day delivering rocks I know rocks! I made a sleeve like that for my phone too. Had to put a notch in the top after the fact to get the phone out. Quote

I was also rather surprised when at first I could not get my phone out.. To my relief I figured out that I could squeeze the bottom of the sleeve and pop the phone out that way..! Quote

Dyed and burnished edges. That belt is perfect in my opinion. The edges are nicely burnished, Some people may have a whinge about stitching across the belt as they say it weakens the leather causing it to perforate after a while. But I don't see a problem with it. I glue as well as stitch, so they should come apart for many years I would hope. Congrats on some really nice pieces of craftsmanship. Quote

I was trying to figure out how to stitch along the belt, but it seemed more bothersome (although more elegant). Will be trying it in the future! Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted February 23, 2017 Members Report Posted February 23, 2017 Nigel Armitage has a video I believe how to stitch a belt keeper. Worth a peek into believe. Quote
