cradom Report post Posted March 5, 2017 (edited) This is a copy of my dads left handed Bianchi flipped to right hand. The original is plain. 8-9oz leather with pig skin lining. For a Ruger Blackhawk .45. Also found out this leather is too thick for the Pull-the-Dots I got for it. (I have since discovered you can use the backs from line 24 with Pull-the-dots...too late) Probably should have used the larger basket weave stamp but I'm happy with it. Yes that wall is pink When we bought the house it was a nursery. Too lazy to paint so far. Edited March 5, 2017 by cradom

plinkercases Report post Posted March 6, 2017 Good bush holster for sure and I think the weave looks ok. A bigger weave would have made the Ruger look even smaller in scale. Nice job.
Mattsbagger Report post Posted March 6, 2017 Yep looks good. Weave is right size. To scale by my eye.
cradom Report post Posted March 6, 2017 Thank you thank you! The other weave isn't much bigger, maybe 1/8 in. I just liked the diamond in the center. Surprised I got the direction to match on the flap
BlakeSmith Report post Posted March 6, 2017 Wow, very pretty gun koozie. Also, I love .45's and that one now has a nice home

cradom Report post Posted March 11, 2017 Quick (dumb) question: making the belt to match this. I stamp the weave before I glue it together right? Also, this belt is not for pants belt loops. Should I use some kind of stiffener between the layers (8-9oz each)? Some kind of strapping? Or is this enough?

Just some info from an old hillbilly that's been making belts now for over 10 years: yes, . . . stamp it first, . . . then glue it. If nothing else, . . . with a bad mistake you only have to toss one piece of otherwise good leather, . . . if it's glued together, . . . you lose two pieces. And as for stiffeners, . . . I personally think they are a waste of time. I've made 1 1/4 inch up to 3 inch wide belts, . . . and never felt the need for a stiffener. My present belt I've worn for 10 years carries a cell phone, . . . a 1911 pistol, . . . holster, . . . up to 3 magazines, . . . flashlight, . . . and a cell phone, . . . and still holds up my britches, . . . and carries the weight. My belts when they are finished, . . . measure out (with calipers) in the .180 to .220 range of thicknesses. May God bless, Dwight
cradom Report post Posted March 11, 2017 That's what I thought, just wanted to make sure, thanks. The stiffener: watched some gunbelt videos on the Tube and they are using much thicker leather. Heard about using using them but wasn't sure. Although none of the videos I watched used them. Then again, two strips of 12oz glued together is quite thick enough for them. Thanks Dwight
alpha2 Report post Posted March 11, 2017 (edited) Nice work~ I also like the smaller stamp. I don't have one of those in .45, but my Single Six would look good in a holster like that! I might have to start one for it today. Do you have a pic of the back of the holster? Edited March 11, 2017 by alpha2
alpha2 Report post Posted March 11, 2017 It turns out, coming up with a pattern with that flap is mind bending experience! I think I've got it, time will tell. I needed a new challenge.
cradom Report post Posted March 12, 2017 (edited) Maybe this will help. It's too big for my scanner no matter how I position it so I just took pics. The back is nothing special, especially since the dye ran while applying the M&G 50/50 and the edge paint but here it is. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMeqfIOjmfR_JRZ7OWs9T0Qo7VPJvOqxehEXAz- https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNDd-TEJ5Hi1UfeL9uqrDmuKOplOVu17Pz5uVB_ https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPbvKFSiFpBNUceTJAV80I-vV7jUiS4vTBT1owX https://goo.gl/photos/rvndLac2MKT3JYg86 Edited March 12, 2017 by cradom
alpha2 Report post Posted March 12, 2017 Thanks, but the only link that works is the last one, which doesn't look anything like the other links. I tried to change the others to match the first part of the one that works, but to no avail. What I'd like to see is how the belt loop works. I can't really tell from the side view in your original post. (I could wing it, but I'd like to see how you actually did it! Oh, and the back of my holsters are never as nice as the front, either! Thanks! Jeff
cradom Report post Posted March 12, 2017 (edited) Ah, I see. Those links only work for me when logged into Google. Sorry. Lets try this: One is a lot blurry, sorry, phone. Belt strap sewed on before lining is installed. Same with snaps. Edited March 12, 2017 by cradom
