Good place to buy by the square foot or precut pieces?

Hello,

I'd like to buy some leather for a small project (a few simple notebook covers). Can anyone recommend a place where I can purchase leather of reasonably good quality by the foot? I've spent a ridiculous amount of time combing the internet for trustworthy suppliers, but with my limited knowledge of leather it's difficult to sift the wheat from the chaff. Where should I look? Where (if this kind of question is not taboo or likely to start forum wars) avoid?

Springfield leather sells much of its leather by the foot.

Another vote for SLC  (Springfield Leather Company).

That's going to depend on how many square feet you're talking about. If your 'notebooks' are 5x7", prolly don't matter.  But if your notebooks are 8 1/2 x 11", then just get a back.

I have had pretty good luck with a local saddle shop in my area.  If you can find one, stop by and ask if they will sell 3 or 4 sq feet
