mono Report post Posted April 15, 2017 (edited) Hi. I've just joined and am reading a lot but it's a lot to take in too. I live in Australia (Brisbane, QLD) and want to purchase a zig-zag industrial sewing machine. So far my requirements are a servo motor and variable speed walking foot, a pressor foot clearance of up to 15mm and that it can sew 2 pieces of up to ~2mm leather together. The 15mm clearance is when I need to sew 2 pieces of leather and a 8-10mm cord together. I may need two different feet too - one for sewing the 2mm leather together and a second for sewing the leather and the cord together. I'd also like the zigzag to do "up to" 1cm wide. I have a preference to purchase new because of the warranty but am prepared to buy second hand. My budget is under AU$3000 if possible - under AU$2000 even better! I'd also like to support local business in my area if possible too. This would be good to build a relationship for ongoing support. Does anyone have suggestions for machines or who in my area might be able to assist me? Kind regards. - now I'll go back to the "The Type Of Sewing Machine You Need To Sew Leather" monster thread Edited April 15, 2017 by mono
SolarLeatherMachines Report post Posted April 15, 2017 A new, heavy duty, walking foot, zigzag machine for ~$3000 Au? I don't know about Australia, but in the US, something like that would be at least twice that price.
Uwe Report post Posted April 16, 2017 (edited) This Hightex Model 9366-12 is probably close to what you are talking about. I, too, have little hope that this is available for AU$3,000 (US$2,200) or less. This Hightex/Cowboy copy of an Adler 366 has 14mm foot lift and up to 12mm zig-zag width. On the plus side, there's a service manual available: https://www.duerkopp-adler.com/export/sites/duerkoppadler/commons/download/public/366/s_366_gb.pdf If you find one of these things new or used and within your budget, you might want to also play the lottery, because that will be your lucky day for sure. RockyAussie Report post Posted April 16, 2017 Do they make a walking foot zigzag machine and with that clearance?
mono Report post Posted April 16, 2017 (edited) Thanks for the feedback. As I said I am new so part of this is realising what the actual cost will be. Thanks Uwe for the suggestion, I will take a look. Does this machine RRP in the states for ~6K ? Has anyone heard of the Adler 166? I may be able to get one of these for just over AU$3000. I am trying to find the manual for the 166 too but can't find it anywhere, even on the manufacturer's website https://www.duerkopp-adler.com/en/main/Support/downloads/manuals.html Edited April 16, 2017 by mono
RockyAussie Report post Posted April 16, 2017 Hi Mono, I had a quick look and found one in NSW for $6,000 so I would say the price would be very good for here in Aus around the $3.000. Found this video that might be of interest -
mono Report post Posted April 16, 2017 Hi Rocky. Thanks, yes this looks like the same model. Very interesting, This is a little overwhelming as I really have no idea what a machine is actually worth and I'm not finding a lot of information on this machine. Uwe Report post Posted April 16, 2017 Here's one more candidate that comes close to your specs (except for price): HighTex 9204ZZ Full specs are on this page: http://www.cowboysew.com/product4.htm Here it's sewing a zigzag over a thick rope:
