chasman52 Report post Posted April 20, 2017 (edited) It's been a battle, but I think I've got it on the run. The question is can I get it better. It marked up this harness leather pretty good. I know there's a lot of operator errors. So let the critic begin. this was on : PFAFF 1445 w a clutch motor reduced 4:1, but the clutch will not let me creep along. 8 OZ. Harness W&C( good stuff) 207 on top and 138 below all polyester bonded with a 134 35D needle ,~ a 4mm stitch Edited April 20, 2017 by chasman52 edit
ArildS Report post Posted April 29, 2017 Hello, are the knots visible on the top of the leather? Maybe too much tension on the top thread.
chasman52 Report post Posted May 1, 2017 Hello, are the knots visible on the top of the leather? Maybe too much tension on the top thread. Thanks, ArildS I didn't notice the knots , but I didn't like the look this stitch. Now I know why
ArildS Report post Posted May 1, 2017 (edited) You're welcome. Obviously, getting the knot in the middle is a balance thing between upper/ lower thread, so you might also want to check bobbin tension if you still struggle. Make scrap pieces exactly similar to what you're sewing. For example a belt; make it extra long so you can cut off a piece to get the tension right. Also I think maybe D point needle is not the most common choice for heavier leather work? I don't know. I tend to use LR, which I think makes nice stitches (closer to a hand stitch look), but my machine and thread is heavier. MadHatter Report post Posted May 5, 2017 Be sure to not raise hoot to turn before needle ia past bottom and starting to move upwards. Also, use a smaller needle so loops stick inside the leather
chasman52 Report post Posted May 8, 2017 Thanks again Adrils, The D point was a request from the wife for a less wavy stitch( I like a good LR stitch) Madhatter, I've done exactly what you warned me against more than once. Thanks for all the advise!!
