Windrider30 Report post Posted May 20, 2017 The reason I ask this is A: its always good to learn something different and B: I posted a few pics of a kangaroo leather braided belt that I do on twitter and someone was a little upset that I used roo leather which is fine and good but what wont you work with leather wise? Personally I will NEVER work with string ray..why...simply because its a real pain in the rump to work with and to me its not worth the trouble and the swearing! Also have seen a few projects made from elephant hide, sourced properly and what not, for me I will not use it simply because to me for some reason (and still not sure what that reason is lol) it seems wrong to use it. So what leather will you not work with and why?
bikermutt07 Report post Posted May 21, 2017 I haven't used any exotics but I have read a bit about them. They are harvested as parts of another industry. Commercially available hides are obtained legally. I'm not sure who's is eating elephants or kangaroos, but people here eat alligator.

bikermutt07 Report post Posted May 21, 2017 Alligator isn't very appetizing, either. It's like stringy, muddy, tough chicken. Muddy like how catfish taste. But these Cajuns love everything about Louisiana, whether it's good or not.
Rockoboy Report post Posted May 21, 2017 IMHO, good kangaroo steak is better than the best beef steak. It is low in fat and tasty. I have some kangaroo jerky in my pantry at the moment, kangaroo sausages and kangaroo fillet in my freezer. Probably the only thing better than a good 'roo steak (within the red meat selection anyway) is a good roast goat leg.

AdamGadut Report post Posted May 24, 2017 leather that i wouldn't work with... hmmmm 1.) Thick tooling leather - where i live at, there's hardly any people who can appreciate it and it takes much more time to produce. Unfortunately, the chinese trade of synthetics has caused people's estimate of the price of leather to a lower level. I'm not desperate yet. 2.) some poor quality leather, - you'll want to test the leathers, first by stretching it as much as you can, if it shows cracks - that bad leather that will deteriorate on high tension applications. Next, you want to try tear the leather by hand - if you can tear it, it's weak leather. 3.) Some Very Thick leather - i prefer not to work with these, it takes too much effort to punch holes and stitch, and when its completed, its very Bulky. if its hard to fold in itself, then its too thick for me.
