I can do either. What is the recommended procedure for applying Tan-Kote?

To spray, I would assume you'd need to thin the Tan-Kote with something in order to get it to spray well.

Tan-Kote sprays well, use a little water. Remember that Tan-Kote is used to thin antique paste. I wouldn't use it over anything that I antiqued.

I finally found some, used it also for the first time. It is THICK! It says to let it set...it was so thick and streaked I tried to smooth it with a cloth. Big mistake, it streaked. How do you people apply this stuff?

Hey Alpha,

I use either a piece of sheepskin or a makeup pad that my wife gave me (a spongy pad that holds up well) to apply the Tan Kote.

I apply it undiluted and use a lot, then smooth it with the applicator pad - seems to level out pretty well.

I just started playing around with Tan Kote - I normally finish projects with Resolene thinned 50/50 with water and sprayed with an airbrush - good results every time!  I have a quart bottle of tan Kote so thought I might as well find a use for it.

Thanks for the tip. I usually use 50/50 sprayed resolene too. Found this Tan Kote yesterday so I figured I'd give it a try. It's definitely different stuff. It says it can be sprayed on...I can only imagine how much it needs to be thinned for that!

I did get the streaking to buff out pretty well.

It depends on what size nozzle you spray it with. If you mix with 20% water you should be fine. If you apply it with a sponge, dampen the sponge first. Don't get the sponge to wet. Give it one even coat, run the sponge in a straight even line. Let it dry over night, if you need another do it again.
