jimi Report post Posted July 30, 2017 Hi everyone, here is our new lodger. had to kick out the two singer´s and replace them with this one. (they are packed away at the moment) this came with a table and motor which i left with the owner as it was without vaccume. it was €400 and as you can see it is not new but i think it was a good price. it will need a couple of parts which seem to be worn, like the pins on the roller feed arm and possibly the small crown and worm as there is a lot of play?? the roller looks very tired but it seems to work. the stone needs cleaning and i think that´s about it, but it works great at the moment. i had to clean it a little and change the knife feed button as it was worn. the feed was very stiff so they probably used pliers to move it and thus wrecking it. anyway there was a new knob in the box. so i oiled the feed and cleaned as far as possible and now it moves a lot freely. small belt is cracked so that is another on to change. the stone pulley looks old but again it is working fine. a little wear on the top plate where the guide goes and non original knob for the guide. the knife protector seems to be missing a piece of metal that held it in when inserted?? not sure, so cardboard under there at the moment haha! this all seems to match with my high tech fortuna stringer table . here are some pictures, i am hoping to do some serious wallet´s in the future so i am sure once i get the hang of it this will prove very useful. any comments welcome about anything i have missed or types of feed rollers and feet combinations. this has a rubber roller with a springed scraper installed and feeds pretty good what i have tried so far, some chrome tanned and potro (horse). jimi Report post Posted August 5, 2017 (edited) just got the feed arm soldered and drilled out again with some new pins in and changed the belt. if anyone is wondering how its changed you just press on the clutch and loosen the screw watching out that the pin with the spring dose not shoot out. made a new plastic window and changed the guide screw as the old one was stripped. rocky? i see on your videos that your left side door has no stone cleaner?? is it not practical to have it incorporated in the door?? I jimi, Glad you've picked up a worth while tool for the many different jobs this machine will enable you to do. As for the stone dressing tool that was attached to the door I took that off so long ago I can not remember why but I think the part was worn out and I find it quick and easy to dress a little when needed by a light touch and hold by hand with this dressing stone I have. Originally A jeweller friend silver soldered an industrial diamond onto the end of a piece of about 3/8" steel about 6" long and since then I found you can buy a similar tool at the machine/hardware places now. As the bell is round it is not necessary to have a dressing devise that makes the the sharpening stone flat right across its face as only a small part of the stone ever comes into contact with the bell. I normally dress it when it is sharpening as you can then see a big difference when it is cleaned up. (very little sparking to heaps of sparking). The broken metal piece was 46mm long with a v bend shape near its end and acts to hold the guard down and locked in. The rubber feed wheels I have not had much luck with due to the blade cutting in problem that you can see a little of on yours. When trying to soft leathers very fine on the edge it tends to waver a give a sort of chopping out. With the fine stones you can even lightly bring them up and grind back the inner edge of the bell when there is a sizeable lip left from sharpening. I had a staff member drive a rubber feed wheel up into the bell so much that I had no way of getting the shape back into round - so that was the end of that one. When you get her up and running well let me know if you have much trouble with the leather sticking to the feed wheel as I think it may be not that hard to put in an extraction method that would not be to difficult. RockyAussie Report post Posted August 6, 2017 Here a few pics that if you haven't already seen may help to understand the extraction process. I think a bit of heating with some pvc pipe could achieve the bell cover shape and connections as well. Brian
jimi Report post Posted August 6, 2017 Hi Brian, thanks for the pictures,i dont see me getting that vaccume on there as i am in a 4th floor and cant go too big here. as for now the tests i have done nothing is sticking to the roller so i will keep with this one until something goes wrong. i just touched it up with the blade and sanded it i little to even it out and seemed to have worked. although i did not take much off. today i have whipped the motor off and put it back on the pfaff so i will have to look for another motor for it. once i get it going again i will no doubt pick your brain . thanks again brian, regards jimi.
