Sewing 9-11 oz latigo

Need help I am trying to sew 2 layers of 9-11 oz latigo, seems like the needle is sticking and making the leather jump.  The pressed foot is already making a mark on the leather.  When it does this it skips stitches. Sewing with a Cowboy 4500 with 207 bonded thread and a size 24 needle.  Thanks for all the help it is appreciated..

Either go up a needle size or screw down your presser foot tension, maybe both.  This type of machine IS going to leave marks, no way around it.  Has this thread/needle combination worked in the past?  Sometimes you can get some really dense, hard leather that requires a bigger needle for the same size thread than what you've been using.

Latigo can be a bugger sometimes. Probably one out of every ten hides I buy will do this. Sometimes going up a needle size will help and sometimes not. I've had some success using silicone thread lube when it happens.

I am having the same issue with some veg skirting 12oz leather, just a very heavy dense section.

 I actually ran it through with no thread to pre punch the holes, then with thread making sure I hit the pre punched holes perfectly.

This is a bit of a pain in the ass, but better than 5 or 6 skipped stitches on a belt.
