BettyJ Report post Posted December 26, 2017 Hi all I've been commissioned to make a backpack for someone and I have been searching high and low for a navy silver (or nickel) zipper tape in either a size 5 as a minimum or a size 10. At this stage, I'm even willing to pay the extra for a Riri just to get some peace! It needs to be a closed end zipper with two heads so that it closes in the middle. I have looked online for weeks, I've searched in Singapore and Australia and I've not managed to get anywhere. Best I can find is a plastic zipper. I've done a search on here and it appears that I'm possibly searching for the holy grail. Please tell me it isn't so. If it is, so be it, I'll have to tell my client she'll have to live with it. I'm not a factory and I can't source what they can. Just going to be such a headache! Thanks again for your help. Betty
YinTx Report post Posted December 26, 2017 What exactly is navy silver? Most of the "sizing" I have seen starts with an M, as in M8, so do you mean 5" to 10", or do you mean an M5 to M10? Those are entirely different things, wouldn't think they are interchangeable. I have and use YKK(Excella nickel) and Riri, they both make a polished tooth zipper that runs very smooth and looks very nice. They are a bit expensive, but since they will be on a product I make for many years, I think the cost balance of penny a day is worth it. I have bought from zipperstop, buckleguy, and others. YinTx Apologies for the confusion, I wanted navy tape with nickel/silver coloured teeth. Size-wise, I was thinking either a #5 YKK or a chunky #10. I'm confused by the Riri sizing as I've not used them much but I think anything above a 6 would be suitable. Only issue is that it must be able to be used with two sliders which seems to be the problem. If I get a jacket zipper, I can't get a very long length. I've looked at buckleguy and he seems to probably be my best option. Thanks for your reply.
YinTx Report post Posted December 27, 2017 If my foggy memory serves correctly, I got a double ended zipper from pacific trimming...was a nice Riri also. They have all kinds of colors I think... and there is a layout of the different sizes for comparison, which was nice. https://www.pacifictrimming.com/zippers-7/riri-zipper/m6.html YinTx

YinTx Report post Posted December 27, 2017 If the Hyper Blue is the color you are looking for, then buckle guy has a lower price by $1.76. If you want a selection of just a certain shade of blue along the spectrum, Pacific Trimming has the selection. Also, they both sell a dye-able version that you can dye yourself for just the color you want. Either way, hope these get you what you are looking for! These are the zip styles as shown on Pacific Trimming: YinTx
BettyJ Report post Posted December 28, 2017 Thanks for the help, YinTx. I've just put an order in with the buckleguy. I had no idea that I could get Riri zips in a continuous form so I am thrilled. They are my favourite to work with. Thanks everyone for your responses and help.
DrmCa Report post Posted December 28, 2017 Closed end can be always created with a few stitches and hidden in the material.
