Members JensenHandcrafted Posted January 17, 2018 Members Report Posted January 17, 2018 I picked up a lock stitch Singer with a unique model number 2281B362. I am sewing mostly canvas, though with some lighter leather details. The machine is in great working order, but I was curious if anyone here has any knowledge of this particular machine? I believe that my best match for manuals would be the 281-22, as this is a needle feed. Can anyone confirm? Anyway, I appreciate the information or insights you all share here. Any knowledge y'all may have about this particular machine would be most helpful and much appreciated. Regards, Josh Quote
Members Gregg From Keystone Sewing Posted January 18, 2018 Members Report Posted January 18, 2018 I realize this appears to be similar to a Singer 281...I've never heard of or seen any model numbers even remotely close to this, nor can I find any information for this class, let alone subclass. Members gottaknow Posted January 19, 2018 Members Report Posted January 19, 2018 Common machine in apparel factories in the 60's on up. Needle feed with ability to adjust stitch length independently between needle bar and feed dogs. This was to adjust for ply shift in flimsy fabrics. True workhorse for medium weight fabric. Will also handle nylon quite well. T60 thread with a 16 needle is pretty average. Regards, Eric Quote
