Members Dun Posted January 26, 2018 Members Report Posted January 26, 2018 Was looking at niwa products and was wondering what leathers could burnish like this? Just dyed veg tan? buttero? Quote

alpha2 Posted January 27, 2018 Report Posted January 27, 2018 That work has been on this forum before. Last year sometime, if I remember correctly. Couldn't say where, but it raised quite a few eyebrows at the time. Amazing edges. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted January 27, 2018 Report Posted January 27, 2018 I am only guessing, buttero or cordovan? Something more expensive than I have been able to afford. Quote

Expand halfmoonleather on instagram was just showing off some avancorp horse fronts that are beautiful and apparently hand burnish well, and may start selling it by the square foot! If I don't get a fileteuse for all this pigskin I have(that doesn't hand burnish) I may have to start ordering stuff like this. Quote
bikermutt07 Posted January 28, 2018 Report Posted January 28, 2018 (edited) Ok I was browsing Rocky Mountain Leather Supply this morning and low and behold. https://www.rmleathersupply.com/products/buttero-veg-tanned-leather-3oz-1-2mm-made-in-italy This stuff is expensive, but looks really nice. alpha2 Posted January 28, 2018 Report Posted January 28, 2018 And think about it, to get the multi-colored work, you need to buy all the colors! Quote
bikermutt07 Posted January 28, 2018 Report Posted January 28, 2018 A little bit more than 14.00 a foot. I guess it's not insanely high? Quote

Sorry to be so obscure but out of respect to Niwa I am hesitant to elaborate any further. There are more than one way to achieve this effect and if someone wants to do something similar, I can only say that burnishing and the leather types are not necessarily the only way to come at it.
