Members johnggrg Posted January 30, 2018 Members Report Posted January 30, 2018 Hi I was wondering if anyone has ever made an all leather guitar case before? If so is there a pattern out there anywhere? Also if anyone has made one. What thickness of leather did you use? Was there any type of stiffener used? Just anything you can tell me would help. But finding a full sized pattern that I can buy would be the best. Thank you. John Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted January 30, 2018 Members Report Posted January 30, 2018 I saw on Instgram that one of the guys at Springfield Leatjer is doing a tooled one. Maybe check with them or their Instagram might have some ideas for you. They are generally pretty helpful. I've called and talked to Kevin the owner and was always helpful. Quote
Members chiefjason Posted February 2, 2018 Members Report Posted February 2, 2018 Yeah, the Springfield videos looked amazing. IIRC he was going to use a liner at some point. Have not seen an update in a while. Quote
Members JMcC Posted February 2, 2018 Members Report Posted February 2, 2018 If I were going to do something like that, I would just cover an existing case with leather. With a soft case you could actually sew the leather to the case itself...just an idea which you may have already thought about Quote
Members BillCowles Posted February 2, 2018 Members Report Posted February 2, 2018 Al Stohlman's The Art of Making Leather Cases Vol. 3 has instructions and maybe patterns. I have not looked at it in a while. The book is available from Tandy or Amazon. They are well worth the money. Quote
Members leathersmyth Posted February 3, 2018 Members Report Posted February 3, 2018 (edited) Depends, if you are talking hard or soft case. Have made both types. No pattern, made to fit the guitar as needed... The hard one, is dovetailed frames. So woodworking skills and tools come in handy. The soft is pretty easy. Padding,Leather and zippers.
