noobleather Report post Posted April 7, 2018 Gday (Hi) All First post here as it seems to be the place for people with leatherworking addictions. New to the leather working scene but the bug has bitten hard. I have been into all grain brewing for 10 years(love IPA and pale ale),low and slow bbq for 5 years (lmainly ribs, pulled pork and brisket) and cowboy action shooting for just over a year. Handmade anything appeals to me,admire skills required to make stuff. Live in Western Australia, big place with a small population in the southern hemisphere.don't know anyone who works with leather,so very keen to learn from members here. Anyway here is a pic of my first projects,3 dog collars (unfinished) for my friends dogs
Rockoboy Report post Posted April 7, 2018 Hi there Noobleather, There are a few of us on here from around WA. There's 2 of us, that I know of, in Rockingham, there's a couple from other southern suburbs and at least one guy from the wheatbelt. Maybe see if you can catch up with one of the guys from Leatherworkers Association of WA, or PM me if you would like more details. Meetings every 3rd Sunday of the month. Your dog collars look really good. Do you do anything with the edges, such as burnishing?
Retswerb Report post Posted April 7, 2018 Welcome aboard, noobleather! Your tri-wing is looking pretty good for just starting out, that’s not an easy stamp to align. Would love to see these on the Show Off sub when you finish them up.
noobleather Report post Posted April 7, 2018 (edited) Thanks Rokoboy. Definitely keen for info on anything local. Yes I will burnish them but still learning the best way to do it,lots to read here.. Retswerb thanks I will do,a bit more work on them yet ie. Glue backs on then stitching etc. That trip weave basket stamp is very hard to line up, a few errors for sure. Cheers Edited April 7, 2018 by noobleather

Handstitched Report post Posted May 1, 2018 G'day Noobleather, I've only just spotted this ....oops, I'm a bit slow , sorry. Welcome to the world of leather I've been working with leather for about 14 years now. I still have my " L" plates on, even after 14 years, but enjoy the learning I am the guy from the Central Wheatbelt . Nice dog collars. But I do agree with the tri-weave, you are not alone. . That has tried my patience more than once . There are the " remains" of the beginnings of a tri-weave handbag in my reject box , just waiting for something inspiring to pop into my head ( instead of expletives) to cover up my mistooks ....er mistakes. Handstitched Report post Posted June 2, 2018 G'Day Noob, I am about 140 k's east , in the Central Wheatbelt , where a lot of farmers are doing rain dances about now , Ha !! The tri-weave just takes practice...and more practice. I don't always get the basket weave right either , I always have to practice on a piece of scrap before stamping on a project, even then I still don't get it quite right. But I guess if I was to use the weave stamps on a regular basis, I'm sure to master it.....eventually HS
