I think this spring is out of alignment and rather the keeping the thread centred on the discs it is pulling the thread across the inner disc. I think this is a cuase of fraying i get sometimes. CowboyBob Report post Posted August 31, 2018 (edited) You have too much travel on the take up spring ,loosen the screw that holds the tension on & turn the whole tension approx. 1/4" to the left or so you have 1/2 of the travel you have now. Your top tension disks have an integral check spring. The check spring is currently set for too much up/down travel. You need to locate a set screw on the head where the entire tension assembly goes in and loosen the screw, allowing you to rotate the entire assembly counterclockwise. Wizcrafts Report post Posted August 31, 2018 Yep, there is a sweet spot on these tensioner/check spring units. Plus, they allow you to add or subtract spring tension independently of the travel. To do that you have to loosen the set screw that holds the unit in place (or a second screw in the casing), then use a flat bade screwdriver to rotate the split shaft left or right. plinkercases Report post Posted August 31, 2018 Thanks Wiz and Bob It is all set up and is making excellent stitcjes top and bottom with both 69 and 92. I installed a teflon presser foot and the previously mentioned reducer and am very happy with the whole machine now. Time to set up the pfaff 335. Waiting on my new old pfaff 1245.
