ewayne53 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 So I've made a few wet molded cases. All I had was 10 oz leather so I skived it down to something around the 6-7-8 oz range. My wife has decided she want's something similar to the cases I've made for a purse but now all I have is 10 and 4 oz leather. I thought about using 4 oz but I was afraid it would be to flimsy even after getting it wet. Has anyone used 4 oz and what kind of luck did you have? Here are a couple of the first cases I've made to give you an idea of the size.
JLSleather Report post Posted September 2, 2018 Yup, 4 would be pretty light. DOUBLE layer of 4 would work, if the added cost isn't an issue.
Mattsbagger Report post Posted September 3, 2018 As Jeff said double 4oz. Then it’s lined also. Win win I’d say.
koreric75 Report post Posted September 3, 2018 Yep, 4oz will mold but is flimsy, maybe not an issue for a purse, you could also try using the 4oz and instead of moulding, stitch a gusset in rather than molding... My wife loves her heavy duty tooled purse, but she doesn't carry it allot since it's quite heavy with nothing in it to start
