Wet molding 4 oz

Recommended Posts

So I've made a few wet molded cases. All I had was 10 oz leather so I skived it down to something around the 6-7-8 oz range. My wife has decided she want's something similar to the cases I've made for a purse but now all I have is 10 and 4 oz leather. I thought about using 4 oz but I was afraid it would be to flimsy even after getting it wet. Has anyone used 4 oz and what kind of luck did you have? Here are a couple of the first cases I've made to give you an idea of the size.

Yup, 4 would be pretty light.  DOUBLE layer of 4 would work, if the added cost isn't an issue.

Yep, 4oz will mold but is flimsy, maybe not an issue for a purse, you could also try using the 4oz and instead of moulding, stitch a gusset in rather than molding... My wife loves her heavy duty tooled purse, but she doesn't carry it allot since it's quite heavy with nothing in it to start
