How to make snakeskin / veg tan leather sweat proof?

Recommended Posts

I am making my own exotic skin camera straps I want to make my own snake skin ones but the older one i bought start to brown in color.  Now I sweat like an ogre so I will need to waterproof my new ones somehow.  Do i use something like resoline on the snakeskin AND veg tan backing? What would be the best process to use AND is this something ill need to do every year or so? or one and done?

thanks!

Here are pics of the straps im using as you can see my sweat from my shoulders have discolor the leather and looks like the leather may have bled through the snake skin? Just curious whats going on here and how to prevent it.

Here is the normal coloring of the snakeskin on the leather:

Here is the snakeskin where the sweat bleeds through

Here is the inside of the leather the left side is the sweaty side and the right side is the side where sweat doesn't touch.

I'm surprised no one else has answered yet.  It may be there are no good answers.

I suspect that anything you tried would at best just delay the inevitable.  I can find serious flaws with any method I can come up with.

I'm hoping the bump to the top will get someone with actual experience to chime in.

Thanks so much yea im afraid sweat is the enemy of leather but these lasted me quite a while so if it is what it is I can make a new pair every few years or so. But definitely would love to find out how best to handle this.

I guess resoline is worth a trial or any other sealer failing that then i guess a rubber type surface on the body side
