Consew CP206R Portable

Recommended Posts

Ok Guys got a lot of great help so far from everyone and a lot of knowledge from the forums and posts but can't ask questions because they are closed. So here it goes; doesn't seem to be any new machines  below the  $1,200.00 price for sewing leather? But  did see the Consew CP206R portable machine for 499.00 plus shipping from Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines.  Anybody have or used one of these and what are your impressions.  Not starting a business, just a hobbyist looking right now to sew two pieces  4 ounce combination tanned leather some say to use #92 thread some say to use #138 some say 6TPI some say  7TPI .    Any other recommendations would be great. I'm sewing motorcycle seat cover and sissy bar pad cover, grip covers and some stuff for family and friends as gifts. In my previous life, I did professional custom wood furnishing and restoration and we would send out the antique pieces that needed the leather parts  restored  but I would like to do this myself also.  Thanks Cal

I got my Consew P1206RB from Toledo Industrial for $995 plus shipping. I love it. Not sure about the portable machine. I did look at the portable for lighter weight work but in the end decided to go with the P1206RB.

The Consew CP206R portable is a light duty dual feed walking foot machine, with a 1/10th hp mini-motor feeding a tiny speed reducer. It is rated to max out at just over 1/4 inch thickness, with up to #92 bonded thread (15 pounds test). There are serious teeth on both feet and on the feed dog. It is often marketed to prisoners who earn money sewing and doing leather work. It would serve as a nice hobbyist's machine as long as the leather is soft to medium temper and not thicker than 1/4 inch. The items sewn with #92 thread should not be subject to a lot of strain (no holsters or buddy seats). The only way to compensate for the weak thread would be to sew parallel stitch lines on felled or piped seams.

If your work requires #138 thread, top and bottom, go to a full blown industrial walking foot machine on a 20 x 48 inch table with a powerful servo motor. The previously mentioned Consew P1206RB-1 is an excellent walking foot machine that can produce professional results.

Be sure to bring your material with you so Bob can help you find the best machine within your budget.
