I was searching for snake skin on etsy and I found this, stated as laser cut cowhide. Seems pretty interesting, Anyone know how it's made? I am tempted to try it. Is this a common thing? I thought most were done as stamps

Interesting. I don't know how it's made, but my intuition says that by slowly rolling leather over a drum, you could get enough of on angle for a scanning laser to make the oblique cuts...

That material is cut and layered, like rows of roofing shingles, so there is more to the process than simply cutting the leather with a laser, which results in a flat piece of material.

As they say up in Maine, "Hard sayin' not noin." I kinda doubt if it's really leather, as it looks like a manufactured material. Maybe you could order some and see. Or provide the link and we can all take a closer look, as it is hard to tell by just looking at the photo.

I ordered some to see it mostly out of curiosity.
