Members mrfixit Posted August 13, 2019 Members Report Posted August 13, 2019 Local sale close to home, this is offered about $125. Will this do holsters? Quote
Members Yetibelle Posted August 13, 2019 Members Report Posted August 13, 2019 Sorry no not a leather machine, but you could make a nice pair of jeans. Quote
Members mrfixit Posted August 13, 2019 Author Members Report Posted August 13, 2019 Thanks, seller didn't have a lot of info on it. I asked what it was used for, his reply was "it was in a sewing business " Quote

It is a chainstitch machine for sewing the stretch fabrics. Many use them on non-stretch too due to the top and bottom thread both feeding from cones. But if you pull on the thread it goes zipppp... and undoes the seam. Edited August 13, 2019 by DrmCa Quote

Chain stitch with both top and bottom thread? How does this work? Quote
Members DrmCa Posted August 14, 2019 Members Report Posted August 14, 2019 (edited) Yes, chainstitch machines feed from cones, not from bobbins. Just google "union special 31100 AK" and it all should become clear. Edited August 14, 2019 by DrmCa typo Quote
Members Gunnarsson Posted August 14, 2019 Members Report Posted August 14, 2019 The search words may be wrong, there are no exact hits. Image search gave me a bunch of diagrams mostly, not sewing machines, other types of searches gave a few somewhat relevant results. Quote
Members DrmCa Posted August 14, 2019 Members Report Posted August 14, 2019 Darn! It's 31100, not 31000. Quote
Members Gunnarsson Posted August 14, 2019 Members Report Posted August 14, 2019 Much better search results. Seems to be listed as a coverstitch machine, not chain stitch. I reacted because I can't figure out what a bottom thread would be doing in what I know as a chain stitch, like this: Quote
Members DrmCa Posted August 14, 2019 Members Report Posted August 14, 2019 The top goes the same as in a lockstitch machine, while the bottom thread does something similar to your diagram. Quote
Members Gunnarsson Posted August 14, 2019 Members Report Posted August 14, 2019 Allright, that does make enough sense. Quote
