Hello Leatherworker community,

I'd love to find a teflon foot or a roller foot for my older Pfaff to minimize the marks left when sewing on leather. The machine I use is a Pfaff 545-H4-6/01. I do not know much about how to source parts for this machine, but I'm guessing it is older than the advent of either of the kinds of feet I'd like to use. Are there teflon or roller feet that are compatible with this machine? If so, can you direct me where to order them? I've reached out to Pfaff Industrial, too, but at first glance, it looks like they're focused on parts for the machines they currently sell.

Thank you so much for helping out!

It is a walking foot already so you need neither teflon no roller foot. What leaves marks? Is it the feed dog or one of the feet? Which one and what kind of mark? If you are using a textile foot with teeth you can grind the teeth off.

Machines: Mitsubishi DB-130 single needle, Kansai Special RX-9803/UTC coverstitch, Union Special 56300F chainstitch, Pfaff 335-17 cylinder arm walking foot, Bonis Type A fur machine, Huji 43-6 patcher, Singer 99 hand cranked, Juki DDL-553 single needle (for sale)

Teflon and roller feet are for straight stitch, bottom feed machines. Your Pfaff has compound feed walking feet. This means that the feed dog, needle and inside foot move in sync as the outside foot alternates up and down. If the inside or outside feet are impressing objectionable marks, back off the pressure screw on top. It controls a spring that exerts force on the feet. The pressure screw is on top of the left side of the head, toward the back. Keep backing off this screw until the marks go away. Be careful not to back it out so far that it pops out! Some pressure is required for the feet to alternate and to keep the leather from lifting with the ascending needle, which causes skipped stitches.

I found a YouTube of your machine being described and demonstrated. Give it a view...

Also, if your 545 has a double leaf spring remove one spring. Often just 1 spring is enough - just check and play with the settings.
