Members Rawhide Posted August 18, 2007 Members Report Posted August 18, 2007 One particular advantage I have is that I live in the Fort Worth area and I can walk into Tandy, or Hidecrafters (They are right across the street from each other.) Anyway, a couple of months ago, someone told me that Hidecrafters had filed for bankruptcy. A couple of weeks ago, I was in the store and the investment group was in the store going over something or another and the person checking me out mentioned they were being bought by this investment group. I don't know the name of the investors though. Hope this doesn't spell bad news for Hidecrafters. Rawhide Quote
Roger Posted August 18, 2007 Report Posted August 18, 2007 last i heard they were bought and would continue. i did try to mail order a few things and they told me everthing was out of stock! i guessing they were in the middle of the sale and were not moving any inventory. i was told later this month they sould be good to go again Quote
Guest Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 Ive heard the rumors too; including the one that says the new owner is TLF. Dave Quote
Members Rawhide Posted August 19, 2007 Author Members Report Posted August 19, 2007 I don't think it's TLF. I'm in pretty good with Tandy here in Fort Worth, and I'm pretty sure I would have heard about that. Quote
Ambassador pete Posted August 25, 2007 Ambassador Report Posted August 25, 2007 By the way- there is a rumor out there that Hidecrafters is suffering after the takeover and that Kevin will stop reatil business and only sell wholesale. He assured me that these were just stupid rumors- don't know where they began, and that he know the fella that took over at Hidecrafters- he's a good guy and is doing just fine. pete Quote

I spoke with someone at Hidecrafters yesterday....they have been sold....the deal is not yet complete so no one is saying who the new owner is....but I was assured it was not TLF. Nor was it a group of TLF managers. The new owner is supposedly not new to the leather business..... That is the extent of what I was able to squeeze out of them. David Quote
Members Peter Ellis Posted August 25, 2007 Members Report Posted August 25, 2007 I'm curious about the bankruptcy angle here. Hide Crafter is in Fort Worth Texas, right ? That would put them in the Texas Northern Bankruptcy Court. I've checked the press and the court and found nothing, which isn't just odd, it's pretty much impossible, if they've filed for bankruptcy. It would be a matter of public record, and one that I would expect to have made the news at least at some minor level. I may be looking in the wrong places, but I think I'm in the right court and I know I've got the right name, since it's there on the company's web page. When sales in bankruptcy get to the point this is reportedly at, they're not secrets. Court has to approve them, creditors get to comment, lots of stuff goes on the record before a sale gets finalized. I started looking because I was curious about who might be taking over. Now I'm curious about what is going on.... Quote
Members Rawhide Posted August 26, 2007 Author Members Report Posted August 26, 2007 Peter, I don't know anything about how the court paper work goes, but what I do know is the bankruptcy information I received came from a very famous Leathercarver, by way of a TLF manager. Plus I was in the store when the new owners were present and taking inventory. I didn't get to see who it was because they were partially hidden in the back of the store. I asked Ron, the store manager, and he said they were being bought by an investment group. He said they would still be there, just new owners. He didn't mention anything about being wholesale only. Members Rawhide Posted September 9, 2007 Author Members Report Posted September 9, 2007 I think it's official. I went into HC yesterday to pick up a couple of things. On my receipt the name was HideCo. I don't know if they will change to this but that's what's there. Also, they have increased stock very well, rearranged the store a bit, and also will be selling exotics very soon. Ron showed me some stingrays and some gator backs and bellies. Hope this info helps anyone. Marlon Quote
Members GampasShop Posted September 12, 2007 Members Report Posted September 12, 2007 I wonder if this is why I haven't recieved a catalog from them. I sent a request for one about 3 1/2 weeks ago and still nothing. Quote

I'm anxious to see what they have that's new. Kathy Quote
