I recently acquired a low watt laser engraver.  It’s an Etcher Laser, about half the price of a GlowForge. Easy to use.  I got it for the primary purpose of making my own embossing dies. I bought some small pieces of Delrin off of Amazon. They worked great. So, i bought a larger piece of Delrin from Professional Plastics.  When I tried to etch it, it didn’t etch deep and melted in the wake of the laser. As Delrin is a brand name, is there a certain type of Delrin I should be using? I’ve looked up information online, but everyone just says ‘Delrin’, as if there’s only one kind. I’ve spent good money on a piece of material I can’t use.  I don’t want to keep spending that much money just to try to find something that will work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

As usual, RockyAussie has provided good information.  You'll notice a button where you can talk with an expert.  Do it.  I'm sure they can sort it out for you.

There is homopolymer and copolymer type of Acetal. Homo is Delrin and CO is not.  There is also HDPE.
You want the Homopolymer.
Check and see exactly what you bought from each.
Please let us know what you find out.
