Hi guys,

I have a Seiko LCW 8bl. The machine is great but I am having issues with the leather getting caught between outer and vibrating foot. I’m mostly making wallets and other small stuff and it is very frustrating.

I’m not sure if this issue has been posted before but I couldn’t find anything. If anyone has any tips, that would be great!

cheers,

zac

I don´t know your sewing process but I would guess you have to increase the foot lift or hold down the material with a bone folder or the like

Looks to me like the timing off the feet is off. Needle appears to be all the way in, inner foot down and outer foot also down. The outer foot should be lifted by now.

Or not lifting high enough to clear what you are sewing.

Maybe a couple more picture may help us make better guesses?

Bert.

Thanks for the tips guys.

At the moment I am pretty much doing as constabulary says and lifting the foot and making sure it isn’t getting stuck, but I would prefer to find a way around it.

I have attached a video, (sorry for the poor quality I had to compress quite a lot) it could be the height my foot is lifting? Be interested to see anyone’s thoughts. The test piece is some scrap kangaroo filed over itself so probably max 1.8mm thick. So thickness shouldn’t be an issue. I was thinking I could file down the front edge of the foot so it feeds through easier?

cheers,

Zac

Good Lord - that does not sound healthy at all. I think the machine needs an oiling. What machines brand & model is this?

With increasing foot lift I mean more foot lift while sewing (or should I say foot stroke?) - you can adjust this on a cam on the backside of the machine (at most models) - I guess you have a manual for your machine. It should be mentioned in it.

EDIT:

Like this - its from a Seiko manual

EDIT II:

inner foot seems to have more lift / stroke than the outer foot. Both should lift equally.

Thanks constabulary!

i will give that a try and let you know how I go. I have a lot to learn about sewing machines. Slowly improving.

The noise isn’t as bad as it sounds in the video! It’s only noticeable when you run the it by hand (for some reason I thought that would be easier while making a video.) I was told by the sewing machine mechanic that it was because of a timing belt, but he was going to charge $400(aud) to change it and it’s only a sound.

Cheers,

Zac

Under normal use both feet should lift to the same height so that is where your problem is. Do you have the manual for it? It's a good idea to become familiar with the adjustments because you will end up having to adjust things at some point - like now.

I thought you may have had a problem with the larger foot lifting high enough to clear your work.

There a few of us in Oz, that could help if you are close enough, I'm down south of the Murray, just.

South of the Murray? That's a big help, it's a bloody long river, Bert.:lol:
