Michael Sheldon Posted September 2, 2007 Report Posted September 2, 2007 My specialty is in making collars for sighthounds (greyhounds, borzoi, deerhounds, etc). These are a couple of my pieces: A collar carved with roses: Another using turquoise gemstones: The stones are real, solid turquoise. Quote
Members LAPat Posted September 2, 2007 Members Report Posted September 2, 2007 Thank you for sharing. Very nice. I especially like the roses. I am starting to think about making decorative leather martingales for dogs and I appreciate your work. Of course I've never done any carving, but I will get there soon.... Also, in my area there is a market for "healing gemstones" which I have been thinking of doing as pendants but I now think would work better as set in the collar... L.A. Pat Quote
Members SmilinJim Posted September 3, 2007 Members Report Posted September 3, 2007 Amazing work, I really like the Turquoise collar. How do you set the stones? The collars are lined, is there a backpiece for the stones? No matter. Great work Jim Quote
Michael Sheldon Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 This thread has a discussion on setting stones, along with my procedure for doing it. Quote
Members LAPat Posted September 3, 2007 Members Report Posted September 3, 2007 Michael Do you use cabachon stones? L.A. Pat Quote
Members Dan Hammons Posted September 3, 2007 Members Report Posted September 3, 2007 Wow .Those are pretty cool. They look like they're more for show dogs than hounds. OK These are what the females of the pack wear. I want to see what the guys wear ??? Quote
Michael Sheldon Posted September 3, 2007 Author Report Posted September 3, 2007 MichaelDo you use cabachon stones? L.A. Pat Yes, always. Nothing else would glue down securely. ...OK These are what the females of the pack wear. I want to see what the guys wear ??? I probably made more of those turquoise collars for males than females, but here's two others: And basic black never goes out of style: Quote
Members Kanga Posted October 14, 2007 Members Report Posted October 14, 2007 Hi Michael, sighthounds, well more particularly WHIPPETS!!! are my love. Do you have sighthounds yourself, I am thinking yes. please tell me what you've got. These collars look fabulous. do you make buckle collars too? Is it rude to ask here how much a fancy collar for a whippet would cost? If so please PM me. Linda Quote
Members whinewine Posted October 14, 2007 Members Report Posted October 14, 2007 And basic black never goes out of style: Beautiful work, Michael! We just got a rescue greyhound last week. I plan on making her a collar also. Your work gives me great inspiration. (Halloween is coming up, though, I'd like to perhaps dress her up as a war dog, with armor & spikes [although that really is a frivolous waste of leather & spikes to wear for just one evening once a year for what? maybe 3 hours???] Quote
Members pella Posted October 14, 2007 Members Report Posted October 14, 2007 Hello Michael, it is also one of my speciality. A good post to share. Your collars are beautiful. Here is one of mine. Different technique but same use! Quote
