In the matting outside of the carving.... what did you use the highlight the deeper points to looks dark/blackish, with the higher parts looking brown?

and how did you apply it?

Hey Wolve , For the back ground I used tandy light brown dye reduced 50% on both flasks and then on the eagle I used tandy red reduced 50% over the light brown. After the dyes were dry I appliedTandy Antique Tan to the Deer and Mahogany on the eagle. I applied these with a dabber in a circlar motion untill color was even and the antique started to get tacky. Useing a clean piece of wool I started buffing lightly to get antique off the high points of textured leather. How much antique is left in depressions depends on the amount of pressure you use while buffing. you have about 15 min to do this .....anything longer than that the antique is hard to get off. I could of swore i posted on these. But, i start a reply all the time then get called away from the pc or get a phone call.

Anyway, I really like these two. I like the other ones but i think these have a few more of the small details . I think that adding the extra to the oval frame part is a huge diff to me. Nice work Dan !

Beautiful work Dan! I especially like the job you did coloring them. I enjoy the carving and tooling, but when it comes to putting on a finish, I think I'd rather have root-canal. Yours came out great.

How did you get the leather so tight over ti flask. Do you dampen it and shrinki it on, or lace the back?

Thanks Mike, Since the others are gone I'll show you the back of one I just finished. I sew the cover first and then slip it over the Flask . 81/2 inches works well with these 8oz flasks although I have had to dampen a couple of them. when the cover is in place I use Barge Cement to get the cover to conform to the curve of the Flask on the back.Flask_Back.jpgDuck__4.jpg
