Members chrisash Posted March 20, 2020 Members Report Posted March 20, 2020 Just been watching some youtube video's on laser cleaning using lasers google "Laser Cleaning". the price is high at the moment but bound to come down, for those of you who restore old steel or other objects is something to consider in i guess a couple of years time From my time in the navy with a chipping hammer in my hand and latter a windiy hammer, I would have sold by sole for these machines Quote Mi omputer is ot ood at speeling , it's not me
DonInReno Posted March 26, 2020 Report Posted March 26, 2020 While there are $50,000 machines that do barely have enough wattage to work, or $200,000 machines that work well, most of what is shown seems to be grossly misleading at best and actual scams are commonplace. I lost all trust in Facebook when they allowed advertisements for scam rust removal for over a year (for the last 12 months FB promotes heavy equipment and metalworking scams on my feed). It will be quite interesting when the price comes down - A laser powerful enough to vaporize rust will be quite dangerous for untrained people to use. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted March 26, 2020 Members Report Posted March 26, 2020 How about dry Ice blasting? Always wanted to test it. We have a dry ice blaster Co locally but never really checked with them. So far my "simple" restoration techniques worked well for me. Laser rust removal for sure is interesting but nothing for DIY people like me I think. Agree with Don - quite dangerous if something goes wrong.
