Did you heat treat the handle area to make it easier to work?

No...I used my belt grinder...small, tiny even... a 1"x30". It cut fairly easy as only the teeth of the bandsaw are really hard. Tomorrow it will go into my brick forge to harden then oil quench. Then in oven to temper...2 cycles of 400 degrees F. Pic is another knife in brick forge.

Sweet.

I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with.

Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day.

From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Did the heat treatment and a little hand sanding. Grey coating is an anti scale compound.

After heat treatment. Then hand sanded awhile. Not as pristine as a Chartermade but I made it. Next will be glue up and handle finishing. 20200419_160304.thumb.jpg.97370cd82ea4002df308ee8629a4eee1.jpg

Little sanding the handle scales. What do you think about the shape?

I like it. I think that nicely tapered handle will allow you to get a nice steep angle unlike my $10 Amazon Japanese skiving knife. It's pretty too :)
