DaveP Report post Posted May 31, 2020 I've watched a few videos of people stamping and carving with a nice small leather round weight. Most have a carved disk on top. Where can you find these? Thanks again David
DaveP Report post Posted May 31, 2020 Something like this kinda...but a whole lot nicer and more weight on edge than this.
Arturomex Report post Posted June 2, 2020 I've seen all kinds of things used as weights, Dave. I'm still keeping an eye out for old scale weights. I wound up getting 10 pounds of shot from a local gun shop, sewed some different configurations out of light leather, filled 'em up with shot and sewed the end up. (Think "sap" without the "handle.") These work well for me but if you choose to do this, make sure you choose leather that isn't going to bleed color onto you damp leather. DaveP Report post Posted June 3, 2020 Thank you Arturo! What did you use? Plain veg tan?
tsunkasapa Report post Posted June 3, 2020 When tooling, I just make a loop of my masking tape, (2") and stick it to my marble. Since I back my leather with the same, it sticks in what ever position I want. I replace it as needed.

This stuff was milled and has a soft hand. I put on a couple of coats of Resoline cut 50/50 with water just to make sure the weight won't suck any moisture up from the project. It stiffened the leather up a bit but that worked itself out. Regards, Arturo
Tallybooboo Report post Posted June 3, 2020 Some of those weights look like fishing weights, for deeper off shore fishing and then some veg tan glued on to keep them from marring the work. Try looking on website for offshore fishing gear.?
