RKCrowe Posted September 14, 2020 Report Posted September 14, 2020 Good day, I am building my first saddle bag for a HD sportster for a friend. I don’t ride, so I have no experience and looking for some information. on mitigating water incursion, if caught in the rain, riding or parked, Is only flap sufficient or is “dog ear” tabs inside required? While riding, does air pressure pick up the flap and allow moisture in, or will the slipstream around you prevent that? the bag is to be mounted using the forward fender mount bolt, through the inside of the bag, will the metal washer affect the leather or is no issue? Quote thank you Richard Quote

Taurus Custom Leather makes some fabulous motorcycle accessories, including side bags. Very inspiring website, might answer some of your questions. https://www.tauruscustoms.com/ Quote

CFM Frodo Posted September 15, 2020 CFM Report Posted September 15, 2020 2 ways of doing this my brother/ make a set of saddle bags that drap over the fender OR you need a plastic form to bolt to the bike and is covered with leather. It can be just the back pice not a whole box Then. You do not want to use bolts and washers you need a plate to hold the plastic to the frame Quote
RKCrowe Posted September 15, 2020 Author Report Posted September 15, 2020 Frodo, thank you. can I ask what you mean by a plate? The plastic on the back panel makes sense. Quote

Look at this picture, Do you see the chrome plate above the bag?, that bolts through and sandwiches the the leather/pvc to the frame. What you need to do, is find out what frame/ make/model of the bike, and find the saddle bag mounting gear that comes with it or buy after market Quote
RKCrowe Posted September 16, 2020 Author Report Posted September 16, 2020 Thank you Frodo, I got it. And a great looking bag. Quote
