Kevin King Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 This is the most elaborate piece I have done. Red ostritch print cowhide, ostritch leg overlay, lambskin/ostritch print pocket flaps, lambskin binding, asian blue dragon brocade lining, and white contrast stitching. I also took some pics throughout the build for a tutorial if anyone is interested. Of course all you guys probably already know how to do all this stuff. I'm still learning. Again, thanks for looking Quote
Mike Craw Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 Kevin, Beautiful work! You say you're still learning (we all are, admit it or not) but do you do this as a business? I especially like the use of the embroidered silk inside. As for a tutorial...let 'er rip! A lot of folks are too shy to ask for one, on any topic, but will certainly view it with interest and learn from it. I've been doing leather work for over 25 years, but I learn something every time I log onto this website. I also own and regularly watch tapes and DVD's of saddle makers and leatherworkers. I could watch the Dale Harwood DVD with the sound off and learn something new, just from watching him move around the saddle he's working on. I learned enough new stuff from watching Jeremiah Watt's tooling DVD to make it worth the purchase price. I wonder if there's any chance we could talk Jim Jackson into doing a Sheridan tooling DVD? Oh well, your stuff is excellent and will only get better. Please know that there are plenty of members on this site who can learn from you, just as you learn from some of them. I sometimes wonder what I might be capable of today if this site had existed when I started. Oh wait, there was no such thing as an internet then...never mind. Mike Quote
Members craftsman827 Posted September 22, 2007 Members Report Posted September 22, 2007 Kevin, I've been into leather work for over 30 years. This is BEAUTIFUL!!! Keep up the good work. Would love to see a tutorial. Like Mike said we are all learning, all the time... Your friend in leather, Pete.... Quote
Members craftsman827 Posted September 22, 2007 Members Report Posted September 22, 2007 Kevin, I forgot to ask, What kind of sewing did you use. I do all my stiching by hand, but I am going to invest in a sewing machine in the neer future. Pete Quote
Members TimberWolf Posted September 22, 2007 Members Report Posted September 22, 2007 (edited) Kevin, extra nice!! I know stitching around all those curves can be pain, you did a great job! What model machine do you use? Tim Edited September 22, 2007 by TimberWolf Quote
Kevin King Posted September 22, 2007 Author Report Posted September 22, 2007 Thanks for the nice words. I use a Juki 1541 but would love to have a post type machine with a roller foot. Quote
Members TimberWolf Posted September 22, 2007 Members Report Posted September 22, 2007 Kevin, I think the 1541 is the newer model of my Juki 241. The big walking foot can obscure the view on those tricky curves, I know mine does. Again, great job! Quote

Ambassador Beaverslayer Posted September 22, 2007 Ambassador Report Posted September 22, 2007 Great looking work again Kevin, that dragon on the inside is a very nice touch. Ken Quote
Members Dan Hammons Posted September 23, 2007 Members Report Posted September 23, 2007 From the pics you posted I'm thinking that I could learn a thing or two about putting that wallet together. It looks really good . Quote
