Just finished my second one of these... I did my first this past January.

I love these things.  I keep telling myself I'm going to make some, but never do!  Where do you get the bells, and do they make good on the noise when you open and close the door?

I used the rough edge on a few sides to make similar but for the dogs to hit so we know they need to go out.

Yes, they are!  They are really good bells and have great tones.

Weaver Leather sells them on their website.  They even have a youtube video so you can hear the tone of each size bell.

 

Yes, that is why I make them, so you can hear someone open or shut the door.

@battlemunky, I heard that idea a long time ago and had forgotten about it - I’ll have to try it, would be a fun training project for the mutt.

Works like a charm. We use a mix of marker and treating with our dogs so there is opportunity for abuse by them hitting the bells just for treats, but I'll treat them anyhow. Beats pee in the house. Not to mention it is a good use for the rough edges of leather too, unless you are going to sell them.
