Members Dogfisher Posted January 24, 2021 Members Report Posted January 24, 2021 Can anyone tell me what technique is used here and what kind of leather? The Etsy ad said cow leather. Looks super thin. Quote
CFM tsunkasapa Posted January 24, 2021 CFM Report Posted January 24, 2021 Based on my research into old shooting bags, it is probably bark tanned calf. Quote Hoka Hey! Today, tomorrow, next week, what does it matter?

CFM tsunkasapa Posted January 25, 2021 CFM Report Posted January 25, 2021 My mistake, I thought you wanted to duplicate the leather. The design is incised, probably with a knife, or scratched in. Then the die/stain is applied. Much like scrimshaw. Quote Hoka Hey! Today, tomorrow, next week, what does it matter?
Members Dogfisher Posted January 25, 2021 Author Members Report Posted January 25, 2021 (edited) Ah. Last night I took a thin waxy piece of oil tan and cut some lines with my swivel knife. Then I rubbed some gel antique into the cuts. They were too thin and the wax blocked any ink from adhering. I will try some veg tan and scratch it with an awl before dying.
