Its sad that we have to worry about such but it sure needs to be worried about. While one is talkin to you in detail about a price or custom work there buddy will be robbing you blind. I got a good friend that does alot more shows then i do. And just last month he had a very collectible caseXX 2 knife set walk off while he was talkin to a customer. He said he didnt make enough all weekend to cover the loss he took by that set of knives being stolen. I see you mention dog collars and leashes is part of what you sell. There great items to be personalized on site. Make them up and leave a name area blank and stamp animals names while customers watch. Quote
Members austinious Posted January 17, 2022 Author Members Report Posted January 17, 2022 I've been super busy at my day job and need to figure out why the site won't email me when folks reply. Lots of great advice! Thanks to all. Lots to digest as we are applying to summer shows right now. Thanks again! Quote
Members fivewayswelshcobs Posted January 18, 2022 Members Report Posted January 18, 2022 I've been been selling leather goods at craft markets for around 15 years people do like to see me hand stitching, it is a good way to start a conversation. Belts out of English bridle leather along with dog collars and leads are the best sellers. Key fobs made from off cuts also sell especially bright colours. Purses, wallets etc ok but everyone seems to compare them to mass produced. Most of my orders are for made to measure items - it is impossible to carry everything possible in stock, it is quite easy to make up afterwards and post, that way I can offer a wider range of colours, widths and buckles so make it individual. I rarely stamp items because of the leather I use but did one show with a chap carving bags , he had quite large group watching all potential customers ! I hope this year is better and easier than last 2 years with more customers and fewer restrictions. Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted January 18, 2022 Moderator Report Posted January 18, 2022 To answer your last question, for storing and transporting inventory at shows. It has been a work in progress for me. I am usually packing 1000+ leather tools to a show, not counting stamps. I've got weight and volume. Started off with totes and lids, packed a dolly or relied on hotel luggage carts when we got there. That was OK, but I was always the last guy out of the show making a bunch of trips in and out. . Two years ago I got three Husky tool totes on wheels At Home Depot for the Prescott show. I still used the regular totes for the overflow. Before the Pendleton show last November I got one more and still had maybe 6 big regular totes for the lighter stuff. My son helped me at Pendleton and on the way home asked why I didn't have two more wheelies and ditch those totes. Sage advice. These totes hold a lot, telescoping handles to push them, sturdy enough to stand on or use as a seat, and are weatherproof.
